Microscopic identification of mites, eggs, or fecal pellets from skin scrapings can confirm the diagnosis, but a negative result does not rule it out. In cases of crusted scabies, which has a very high mite burden, the diagnosis is more straightforward based on the clinical appearance of thick crusts and scales.

Importance of Proper Diagnosis Before Ivermectin Use

Before initiating Ivermectin for Scabies treatment, it is crucial to establish the diagnosis of scabies, as the medication is not indicated for pruritus alone.
