With the warning that "noise kills", more than 2,600 national Phone Number List associations and entities have begun to mobilize in an awareness campaign to demand that public administrations comply with the laws and sentences against noise pollution, given that the situation in Spain "it continues to get worse year after year."
Among these associations, Jurists against Noise stand out, an entity that brings together lawyers specialized in these issues; State Confederation of Neighborhood Associations; Federations of Associations against Noise; Spanish Acoustic Society and Federation of Associations Against Acoustic Pollution and in Defense of Historical Heritage (Facuspat).
The idea, these entities warn, is to "properly inform the population about the damage that exposure to noise can cause", since "beyond a simple annoyance", it considerably reduces the quality of life, as well as the rights fundamentals of the exposed people, to the point that it can "kill."
For Yomara Garcia , president of Jurists against Noise and spokesperson for this Campaign against Noise 2023, “the noise problem has been growing exponentially in our country. This is demonstrated by data from the Carlos III Health Institute according to which, only in the Community of Madrid, traffic noise appears as "a variable related to emergency mental health hospital admissions in general for all age groups." and is linked to around 6,000 emergency admissions and around 500 deaths each year.”

From this association of lawyers, created in 2001 with specialists in the field to influence the state law that would be created two years later, "noise and noise pollution is more than a nuisance, it is a public health issue."
“People affected by noise in their homes see their fundamental rights affected, such as the right to personal privacy; the right to the inviolability of the home, articles 18.1 and 2 of the Constitution because it prevents you from leading a peaceful life. And these fundamental rights are of preferential protection. They are at the top and at the base there would be others such as the right to freedom of enterprise or leisure that should not be placed at the same level,” clarifies its president.
Noise and noise pollution is more than a nuisance, it is a public health issue
For this jurist, it is urgent to demand that the competent Public Administrations comply with the laws and sentences, which have been issued with the purpose of protecting the fundamental rights of citizens, defending the health and the inviolability of their homes: “They do nothing , they turn a blind eye. It is not effective nor does it adopt preventive and corrective measures.”
