Charles Elwood "Chuck" Yeager (born February 13, 1923) is an American flying ace, known for being the first person to "break" the sound barrier. Yeager enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF) in 1941, then eighteen years of age. He worked as an aircraft mechanic and pilot before heading to Europe in World War II.
Upon returning, he entered the test pilot school, where he soon established himself as superior, being selected among the 125 pilots to fly the X-1. On October 14, 1947, Yeager breaks the sound barrier above the city of Victorville, California. Yeager flew whatsapp database many test aircraft for the USAF and investigated numerous accidents. In 1960 he was appointed director of the space school at Edwards Air Force Base. In the American film "The Elect" (1983), actor Sam Shepard plays the role of Yeager.
